The big advantage of the cloud version for me is the ability to edit on my desktop, laptop or iPad - whatever I have available at the time and know those edits are available everywhere. You can kind of fudge this in cloud version by using "versions" to store your different edits, but it doesn't work quite the same way. One of the biggest things that cloud is missing (for me) compared to classic is the Virtual copies - which are a huge feature to me - being able to develop the same photo in multiple ways/styles without having to store multiple copies of the same photo is a fantastic tool. Switching from Cloud to Classic isn't going to magically up your editing game - the basic editing tools are pretty much identical between the two versions now, so you're not going to find some magic new tool that will instantly make your edits better. I'm a longtime Lightroom classic user - since before it was called classic! And I'm currently debating going the opposite way to you and switching from Classic to the cloud version. And, of course, there’s always presets.Īlso, one advantage of LRC that I didn’t see mentioned is that if you import images via LRC and sync them to your Lightroom, they don’t count towards your cloud storage (whereas if you import on Lightroom or Lightroom Mobile, they do). have tons of YouTube tutorials and how-to’s for their editing workflows. Also, a lot of photographers like Peter McKinnon, Evan Ranft, etc. But what I would do is keep looking at the work of the photographers you admire on IG, and try to figure out what it is about their photos you like, so you can incorporate that Into your work. I do think you’re on the right track, though, by starting to include Photoshop into your workflow. Your question sounds like you’re wondering if LRC is able to give you more, or better options for the final edited look of your photographs, and I think the answer is no. It’s still early to know whether Found is getting a season 2 renewal. And if it does well and gets another season, usually the episode count goes up. And within three years at Assumption, we had won a championship. “I’d alway said that I’d like to go someplace and build it from the ground up. “I took the Assumption position specifically because they’d never had a real culture of winning,” Coach Murphy said. He then took over the Assumption College head job in 1998, where he coached for three seasons at the NCAA Division II school. If I knew half as much then, as I knew now, I’d be wearing a National Championship ring.”Įvery step of the way from that first season at Massasoit to Georgia Southern brought different challenges, different experiences - and different contacts.įrom Massasoit, Coach Murphy went to Brown as an assistant coach, where he worked for current Clemson head coach Mike Noonan as an assistant for four years. But it kills me, because I was 27 years old. I learned a lot from that game, like how to manage a lead, use of time and substitutions. Even now, it stings a little bit, but it doesn’t take away the accomplishments that we had that first year. We lost a National Championship semifinal match my first year as a head coach - we were up 2-0, and lost 3-2. “If you have a clear mindset, you tend to remember the good things in a positive way, and tend to forget the negative things in a bad way. “Like everything in life, you learn more from the tough lessons than you do from the good ones,” Coach Murphy said. It did not take long for Coach Murphy to get his first head coaching job, taking over his alma mater in 1994 - and also to take away his first coaching lesson. “Coaching is something I’ve seen up close that can make a big impact on a group of people, and it started right there at Massasoit.” Nick had the same impact on them as he had on me,” Coach Murphy said. “In all, four guys I played with in college, went on to coach. So as soon as I stopped playing, I started assisting him. He really was my first mentor, someone I looked up to. He was someone who had a lot of charisma, and a very powerful personality. “Nick Palantzas was a top coach who won two National Championships at Massasoit. “My college coach had a big impact on me,” Coach Murphy said. So it makes sense that his very first head collegiate coach became one of Coach Murphy’s early influencers. The two years that Coach Murphy played at Massasoit included a lot of success on the pitch - including contributing to the 1986 NJCAA National Championship squad. I tend to think that I come from that kind of family, growing up in that home and around that kind of environment.” My sister’s a teacher now, and my wife is a teacher. “He was playing on a U-12, and I was helping the head coach with that team while I was still a senior. “When I was still in high school, I assisted my little brother’s team,” Coach Murphy said. But for Coach Murphy, it came about even earlier than that. How exactly did that journey start? And just how far does the reach of Coach Murphy’s experiences extend throughout the professional and collegiate coaching world?Ī lot of collegiate players think about entering the coaching profession while still in school. And his unique mix of experience at both levels has brought success to the Georgia Southern men’s soccer program as he delivered the first conference championship in the 40-year history of the Eagles in 2016, while already ranking as the second-winningest head coach by percentage. Beginning as a fresh-faced goalkeeper at Massasoit Community College in 1985, Coach Murphy embarked on a journey that has taken 30 years to bring the Quincy, Mass., native to the Eagles.Īlong the way, Murphy has influenced - and been influenced by - some of college and professional soccer’s biggest names in the coaching profession. The burnishing pencil I prefer most often is just using the last pencils in the colored pencil layering process. You may also choose to use another colored pencil as your burnisher. These are pencils without color and mostly contain just the wax and/or oil found in a colored pencil. Many pencil manufacturers make their own version of a burnishing pencil. There are many ways to get the job done when it comes to burnishing. If you like a more saturated, polished look to your finished piece then you may choose to burnish. There is not a requirement on when or reasons to burnish colored pencil artwork. So what about pencil burnishers and the different types there are to choose from? Reasons to Burnish Colored Pencil Artwork The point of the pencil makes a big difference in the layering and burnishing process. It can also leave white spots trapped under the multiple pencil layers. Heavy pressure (or burnishing) too earlier in the process can also cause your surface to look unfinished. Once you’ve flattened out the tooth (the surface texture) of the paper it can be difficult or impossible to add more layers. If this happens unintentionally, it is sometimes referred to as accidental burnishing.Īccidental burnishing can limit your options and can damage the drawing surface. This generally means the paper or surface you’re working on will not take more layers. In colored pencil, burnishing can also happen when you’ve applied so many pencil layers and used heavy enough pressure to smooth the surface of the paper. If you like the polished look, then use the burnishing technique after you’ve completely rendered. When drawing on a good cotton paper, like Stonehenge paper by Legion, you have the option of building up multiple layers. Just know that burnishing and layering go hand in hand. In colored pencil art, you can create the appearance of glossy or shiny objects by using this technique. The word actually comes from a word that means, “to brown”. You are smoothing the pencil layers.īurnishing, as a word, technically means to polish by rubbing. Which leads me to a popular question I often get… What exactly IS burnishing?Īn easy definition for burnishing is to press hard on your final layer to remove the white of the paper. These cherries have a very glossy type of skin I wanted to use the burnishing technique to be able to show this texture. Otherwise, simply freehand the cherries onto your drawing project and place them within the center (leaving enough margin around the edges to mat and frame the piece if you so choose). I like to use Prismacolor Col-erase pencils for the line drawing. I like the Tikteck A4 Ultra-thin Portable LED Light Box Tracer. This will generally shave off some of the upfront time in working out your line drawing. If you are brand new to art and don't feel comfortable creating your line drawing, feel free to use a ruler to get an exact placement for the elements in this piece.Īnother simple way to just get started with a line drawing is to use a lightbox to trace the outline of your reference. This created a pleasing variation in the lines and overall composition. I decided to draw it pointing to the left rather than the right. I noted one small change to make to the direction of one of the stems. In the case of the Cherries reference, I decided that there was enough there to work with to create my artwork. On the other hand, if there’s a significant amount of changes required, then I’ll take reference shots all over again, noting the changes I need to make. If there are simple elements in the piece that need to be changed I’ll do it. Before starting a new art piece, I ask myself the question: Will this reference help me make a compelling work of art? |
